Get Moby's Music for Free

Moby has provided music for films ranging from Richard Kelly's Southland Tales [1] to the shoot-em-up Bourne movies. Changing tempo a bit, he's now looking to work with grassroots filmmakers—film students in particular. Moby has a Moby Gratis [2], a new service that will provide music for free to independent filmmakers. If you go to his website, you can log on to create a user account and browse a selection of downloadable tracks. If your project is a labor of love with no revenue-generating potential whatsoever, Moby will let you score the film with his music free of charge. If you are producing a film or short with commercial distribution in mind, you can license the music for a nominal fee. Moby will donate those funds to charity. The new initiative seems to be close to Moby's heart. He spoke about it at the recent IFP Market [3] in New York City, and organizers of SXSW [4] recently announced that he would be a featured speaker at the conference next March, and that part of his presentation would focus on Moby Gratis.
