The American Media Project is a new non-profit journalism venture based in Washington, D.C. AMP is conceived and backed by stalwarts in independent print and broadcast journalism in the U.S.
This well-funded initiative is gearing up hiring backpack video journalists/ and/or filmmakers to produce cutting-edge, public interest video reports about pressing national issues for an influential online audience. We are currently hiring our initial staff and are looking for a producers and associate producers who can research, report, write, shoot and edit video stories, often working as a solo video journalist, sometimes working with teams.
Selected candidate will be responsible for:
-Working with print correspondents and senior producers to generate story ideas and produce regular video news reports
- Shooting Washington D.C.-based video (interviews and B-roll) on miniDV video cameras with correspondent or independently
- Editing on non-linear video editing systems on Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro;
- Merging video news service source material and photos with original D.C.-based material to create comprehensive investigative packages
- Writing timely and analytical scripts
-Working independently to develop and produce feature news stories
We are in search of candidates with:
- Experience as a VJ and industry standard Sony, Canon, JVC or Panasonic cameras
- Comfortability with Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere editing software
- Knowledge or interest in learning about politics and D.C.-based affairs
- Understanding of Web 2.0 video technologies (video compression, Flash video, etc.)
- Strong script writing skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
